    Short-eared Owl in Hiding

    Taken less than two weeks ago in one, dark and cloudy freezing cold morning.

    Can you tell if it's a male or female?

    None of the bird books I have differentiate between the male and female of the species, so I guess you can't tell - at least the folks who compile the books can't. I guess you would have to take down its genes.

    From what I've read, the female should be more brown and the male paler in color. I guess it's kind of like the harriers. I would like to see photos of both sexes so that I'd have a better idea how different they look. I'm guessing this one is a male but I really am not sure.
