    Shadow or no Shadow?

I am just starting to take nature pics. I live in Michigan and we have great areas for wild life, but I am trying to learn with whatever I have near me for now.

I took these on the lake this weekend and I an trying to get an idea if you all like being able to "see" the eyes or leave the shadows alone for better color....

Thanks for any comments to help me get better...

Definitely try to get the eyes if at all possible.

Taking it a step further, even if the eyes are in direct sunlight, dark/black eyes can still be "lost" in a shot. Wait for the subject to turn his head so that you can see the pinpoint of the reflected sun in its eyes through your viewfinder. That is your cue to fire.

Thank you all for the advice. I am looking forward to my next time "up north" to try to shoot more. I will try to get in a better position so the sun is to my advantage.
