Paul, I found two nesting pairs. Each near the tops of two trees about 50' apart next to the pond. Based on the amount of food both the males and females were gathering, I assume that the chicks have hatched.
Standing on a rock between the two trees for about 1 1/2 hours, the females started landing nearby - they were easy. As for the males, I found that if I moved towards one tree, he would actually fly to the top of that tree (protecting the nest I assume). So my problem was actually reversed - couldn't keep the males from following me (although he would often be hidden within the tree). So to get a shot of him flying at me, I would literally run from one tree to the other, stop, turn around, and shoot as he flew over me. It had to look pretty funny
The females here are crazy close. Most of these shots here are just about full frame. I've never been able to get that close to any wild birds before. Hope I didn't stress them out.
Rick, I've stopped posting in the Critique Forum. I must be getting lazy as I found it took too much effort to respond to responders and respond to posters. I like to just put some stuff up here and hope people enjoy it. Thanks, tho
