    Queen Butterfly - Bug Porn

    Activity and numbers are better than I expected, with the drought and local conditions.

    Queen Butterfly Danaus gilippus

    Distinguished from Monarch by the deep 'fox brown' color (Audubon's Deserts) above and below with black margins and fine black veins.

    First Picture shows full spread on a Blood Flower Asclepias curassavica growing on the grounds.

    Second picture is, well, butterfly porn. Hanging from a mesquite branch

    Great images indeed, though more DOF on the first would have gotten both complete wings sharp. It appears your focus was on the middle of it's body, they to lock the focus on it's head(or farthest away body part in some cases) and recompose is need be. DOF PREVIEW is your friend,though I would turn the flash off while doing it so it doesn't fire and scare your subject.

    [QUOTE=paulnjDOF PREVIEW is your friend[/QUOTE]

    I'll try the DOF button more often. My 'presbyopic' eyes have a difficult time discerning a whole lot, so I believe there will be a bit of a learning curve before I achieve improved results.

    Thanks to both of you for the comments!!

    This one is a little better.
