    Pretty Good Fisherman

I was on the road on Friday, and of course I had my camera with. I drove by a couple of these Great Egrets fishing in this swampy area. he appears to be catching a fish, but there is no lake or stream close to this spot. Did it rain minnows here? Maybe it's something else.

I was sure glad I shot raw plus jpeg. When I checked the histo at the time, everything looked good. When I viewed the jpegs on my PC, they all had blown highlights. I put the card back in the camera and put my reading glasses on. Then I could see the small bit of white in the lower right hand corner of the histo, in each shot. Putting the glasses on is such a pain, but definitely a good idea. Thankfully, I was able to recover the highlights in raw.

Get yourself a "Hoodman". Best invention ever for those who take their histogram seriously, and shoot outdoors. I use mine every day I shoot for the very reason you pointed out.
