Walking around the dike a couple of days ago, I came across these Pine Siskins feeding on Cedar seeds. Siskins seem to show up en mass in a four or five year cycle. A few years back we had millions of them in tremendous, noisy flocks, then for the last few years we've seen hardly any. Now again this year we have large flocks wintering in the valley. These ones were quite close and though they knew I was there, they didn't seem especially concerned.
