    Dang Dennis, you sure have some cool looking critters in your backyard! Knowing nothing about this bird or its habits, the body position gives the impression he's moving in a vertical direction. Is he more or less moving in an up/down pattern here?

    Ken this little sparrow sized fellow is the ultimate thug - highly aggressive around the feeding area and chases dove sized birds with impunity. He grows the long tail feathers in breeding and in this pic is displaying to a female perched some 2 feet from him - he is in fact hovering and using immense energy to maintain position hence all the "motion" in the shot at his feet and tail.
