    Pheasant in a Tree

Only my second time seeing a ring-necked pheasant. This one was impossible to miss - about 6' up a tree eating berries against drab, leafless trees and bushes.

I first saw it from a loooong ways away and thought it was brightly colored trash stuck in the woods

Great shot, I'm not use to seeing pictures of them in trees.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

Nice contrast and splash of colors! Unique angle too.

But, hmm, I think you nabbed two birds in the 1st photo... look near the lower-left corner.

    Re: Pheasant in a Tree

Nice find Loupey. I have only seen a pheasant in a tree once. It was in collage and we had our Christmas Tree stuck in a pile of snow in the front yard. A friend came over and said that he had run over a turkey on the way into town. We told him to go get it and we would cook it up. He went left and came back with the "turkey", which was actually a pheasant. So instead of cooking it, we posed it sitting in the Christmas tree in the front yard. Lots of people slowing down and stopping to check it out. Ah, for the good ole days...

Nice shot Loupey, it sure does stand out against that dull background.

I would say the one flying away is a starling.

    Re: Pheasant in a Tree

Did the pheasant actually think it was hiding?

I like the first one. That bird flying away is an interesting touch. You must have waited very long for that moment.

Interesting that this is only the second time you've seen a pheasant, and then you see it in a tree. I've seen probably thousands of pheasants and haven't seen one in a tree for many years.

    Re: Pheasant in a Tree

    Thanks guys!

Had I known pheasants aren't usually found in trees (like those mallards from a few years back), I would have shot more

I did try to get closer after it jumped down on the ground. But trying to walk on extremely cold/crunchy snow is about as quiet as walking through dry leaves. He simply disappeared into the brush.

    btw - yes, sparling-in-flight.
