thats almost as big a rack as youll find in PA. im surprised hes not collared... makes for a better photo though. nice shots especially for 180mm.

Okay, now is it "pa" as in "big daddy" or PA as in the state?

Beautiful shots, I had no idea Pennsylvania had Elk.

pa naturally had the woodland elk which went extinct. but there were elk farms (which may have had some of the woodland genes in the - they aren't sure) but in the early 1900's elk were brought in from the west, and are now currently being managed in a few north central counties, in a herd of around 600-800 head.

also as an FYI elk in kentucky are the largest in the world.... also imported from western herds (but around 10k head).



its a shame the light was so harsh, cause those are great close up shots.

lighting yes we were all disappointed the sun was very brite and with the snow on the ground made it evn more difficult. But one has to photo where one finds em:thumbsup:

Very nice shots! I have only seen one PA elk and it was in summer
