A one of a kind Osprey photo

The last photo is the one you will never see anywhere else but here. I did not photoshop anything into the picture. This is exactly how it was taken except to crop for a closer look, Jeff

The pair building a nest taking a break

Osprey flying to nest with fish with the head eaten off

    same as above but closer

Osprey leaving nest. Note that the blue thing in the nest is a fishing net with a metal ring to keep it open. This has to be one of the smarter birds I have ever seen and no, it IS NOT PHOTOSHOPED into the picture, this is just as I found it.

    Hi Grandpaw,
    You use

These pictures are really nice. I never thought much about Osprey's until viewing Eric's pictures and now yours.
I have gained a great respect for these raptors. Thank you for sharing them. Any idea on why he/she collected the fishing net?
    That is very interesting.

You can also use HTML to insert an image.

Did he grab that net while a fish was in it, you think? Or just figured it'd be good nesting material?

They may have gotten the net for later when they have little ones in case they fall out of the nest. I did see them get the fish in the picture and the net wasn't used, LOL, Jeff

Cool shots!! My guess would be the net was stuck to one of the limbs they brought in to build the nest. I have seen sticks in their talons with plastic wrapped around the stick.

I'll bet they use the net to catch fish when no one's watching! Neat set of images.

I think they use the net to catch fish, too.

Thanks for all of the replies and comments. I had taken some photos the day before and the net wasn't there so it is a new addition to the nest, Jeff
