    Only 2 Coot chicks remain..........

Yesterday I went to the Viera Wetlands specifically to photograph the pair of Coots with chicks. The pair had 4 chicks. This morning I returned for more photographs but found that only 2 chicks remain. It has been a bad year for the survival of bird chicks of all species at the Viera Wetlands.

One pair of coots on my local lake started with 5, ended with 1.
Yet others are swimming around with 5.
Our main local predators are heron, pike, fox, and mink.

if you have snapping turttles they can quickly reduce the population also.
I never seen a coot before the chick looks like it came from a different planet nice pic.
