Thanks for sharing your story along with the pictures. I am so happy that someone like you found the poor thing and helped it get its strength back. There are many people that have no compassion for wildlife.
As for the weather, has it been confirmed yet that it's been like 41 years since all of Canada from coast to coast had a white Christmas?

Actually, it wasn't me who helped the owl. It was somebody else. I only passed on a good story and thought birders/bird photogs here would be interested in it. Besides, it also has some good sharp photo of the little owl to boot.

You know, with so, so much snow on the ground, it's the opinion of many here that perhaps it's not worth it to have a white Christmas like this. I and my car are trapped, too :cryin: :cryin:

    :cryin: :cryin: is right!

Trapped with at least 2-foot-deep snow here too...

Sorry but that person had good intentions, but I don't agree with handling, wieghing, hand feeding... a saw whet owl.

What would you do instead and why?

The animal wasn't banded from what I seen in the images, so why all the scientific useless data ? Glad to see someone stressed a tiny owl for pointless data

I would have moved it 500 feet to a new perch and made sure the birds didn't mob it anymore.... end of playing God.

They did feed it with some New York steak...OK, may be not

Yeah, I wonder why they didn't do that. Simple and direct.

They were not wrong for doing that, though capturing birds of prey is a federal crime ......oops. I just don't agree with stressing animals for wieghts and measurements for nonscientific research.

I do indeed capture owls at work myself(screech), but they are homeless when I evict them. I take them to a raptor rehab adjacent a NWR and if they can't be rehomed in the area found, they are released in the NWR.
