    Great capture! Funny thing is they are probably both aware of each other. Very few Squirrels go unnoticed by a Hawk! Would love to know the outcome

    Oh, the hawk knew that squirrel was in there. He'd been staking out the knot hole and sticking his head in there just before this when I first came upon him. I think he may had given up at this point and was looking for another meal.

    The last thing I expected was to see Squirrely pop his head up! I'd assumed at this point it was squirrel holed up in there, but that just floored me. I don't know if the hawk didn't see him since he was looking at other potential prey or if he was just staying still hoping the squirrel would come out further.
