    The New Zealand Wood Pigeon...

Here are some shots of The New Zealand wood pigeon. The bird's wings were pretty loud on take off and landing. When I initially saw it, I thought it was some sort of Hawk as it was very large. These were taken at Morere Hot Spring in New Zealand last weekend. I know the last shot probably needs some PS help. I really need to get my camera sent out and cleaned now.

Here are a couple of more shots taken with my 18-55 lens before I switched to the 70-300 just to give you an idea how big this bird is.

    That's one freaky looking bird

How was NZ? I've taken a keen interest in that place recently. Would like to visit there some day.

Re: The New Zealand Wood Pigeon...

I am seriously considering moving there for a year or two. My wife is a New Zealand native. Most people are very friendly and it's great to just get on the road and drive. Traffic is NOT an issue outside of Auckland. I like it better than Australia. I think Australia is probably better for making a living but New Zealand seems to be more layed back. There are endless things to shoot there. I have many many pics to share but I'm already back to work and we've only been back a day and a half I would highly recommend seeing New Zealand or Australia.

    Thanks for the info, Dave!

Yeah the terrain looks rugged and unspoiled for the most part there. I'd like to try my hand at fly fishing for salmon there.

Hope you get a chance to get to your pics to post some more.

Here's one shot that for ya. It blows me away that this shot came out sureal looking. We had rotisary chicken sandwiches and sausage links on the boot of our rental car and my brother-in-law's car near this location. Sorry for the size.
