    Re: New to this

To me, the image is rather "textbook" - meaning something you might see in a science book. Most of the major parts are easily visible. Has merit in that regard so it depends if you intended to shoot it like that.

From a nature photographer's standpoint, the shot is too stilted - compositionally, lighting, pose, color, and background. Next time, look at it for a while. Walk around it, get under it. Find something that invokes a "that's cool" moment within you before you shoot. Don't worry if you don't see it - sometimes it occurs only when the lighting is just so and the specimen is behaving just right - in other words, shots will not often materialize even with the best of subjects.

Keep practicing and keep posting. We're here to help.

Thanks for the input Loupey. Your comments are much appreciated and thanks for giving me some ideas for shooting the next time I am out.

Here is a picture of my wife on our honeymoon this last weekend.

I feel there is too much whitewash? over the left side background of photo. I have Google Picasa so I am limited as far as editing. Oh well, I like originals. This was shot in RAW with a D80 camera with 55-200mm VR lens (only lens I have right now).

Thanks in adavce for your C&C

    OK, I'm confused - who's who?

    Chaser/DLB1973 = one/same person?
