    Need A Hawk ID

I know it's a hawk, and that's about it. I also know we have Ospreys and Red Tails in my county. So, can anyone tell me what type this is?

Taken with a Coolpix 5700, and cropped.

This is where I might get egg on my face, but it looks to me like a pidgeon!

I'd have to guess Red-tailed, looks like it has the speckled band on its chest.

Thanks Mike. That's what I was leaning toward. The ospreys are usually more black and white. But I'm not a birder by any means. I grab an occasional shot, and get Paul or someone else on PR to give me an ID.

    Thanks again.

    Hehehe.

Yeah, that Coolpix isn't exactly the epitome of wildlife cameras!

Which is why I need a D200! Imagine if I had taken this shot with a D200 with my 80-200mm (which would have been the equivalent of a 120-300mm). Then I could have gotten a decent shot. One that wouldn't look like a pidgeon.

    ;-)

    THE MAN has spoken!

    Thanks for confirming the ID.

Not an easy thing to do with such a crappy shot.

That is actually an easy ID... I know the location , so that is the only common buteo there I count hawks with 10x binos at a mile dude, that is a joke to ID with every field mark present
