My Orlando Eagle nest came down..tree snapped!

Worried about the high winds yesterday I cruised out to my favorite Eagle Nest. Found them all perching and enjoying the fish pop's just brought in. Shortly after I left my friend called me to tell me that the tree split in the upper section and the nest came down.
Juveniles have been rescued by the Audubon Society and are doing well. Should be able to bring them back to this location in a few weeks for release. Went by again late last night and found the Adult's flying real low looking for the young...quite a tragic event!

As you can see this tree was in bad shape and we new this day was coming..20 feet of tree is missing from the break you see here......

Bummer! Glad the chicks were rescued but also wonder what the parents would have done if left alone.

No nest this year, but the eaglets will be back in 2 weeks. Spoke with the Audubon Folks today and the young ones should be healed and ready to fly in 2 weeks. The parents will wait on them. One of the Eaglets fell out 2 years ago and was reunited very easily with the Adults and other sibling. They are remarkable Birds!!

I will be called when the release is set...I will bring you the photo's of that moment!

I have not been able to get out, the weather here in NY has been terrible. Maybe tomorrow.

I do know that when most birds loose eggs, they will rebreed out of natural instinct. You are correct that they will not make a new nest this season , but very likely will make one in that area next season.

I am suprised that nest stayed up that long!

as a matter of fact the Audubon called me today and they are going to release one of the young ones tomorrow. They other one another week or so, he had a fractured hip.

I will posting some release photo's tomorrow night. I am meeting them to capture the release on camera!!!
