    My first "small birds" photos

Hi Everyone. With the exception of the goose, these are pretty much my firsts of the other smaller birds with my DSLR. The last few of the Robin was especially fun. I was sitting in the work truck with the door open and he/she just kept coming closer to me. I actually had to zoom out.
If you know what the first 2 birds are, please let me know!

Nicely done Kristine, I have the toughest time on these little buggers. Between camera settings and moving to a good position they usually fly off just as I am focusing.
I have had great success posting unknown bird photos in the Bird ID thread. However I believe the same bird ID experts check this forum as well.

That's a super job on the Canadian.

    Thanks!
I had all day at work to walk around the property and experiment and here's what I found out... It is true most species are different; either very shy or not too much. However, I also noticed in the ones who are not so much, if you sit in one place for a while some actually come closer to you to check you out. And the Robins will actually walk right up like this one! Also, for the tree shots it took a long time. I crept standing up right out in the open, but moving super slow from the knees down. Every now and then I would stop and shoot just to get something in case, but eventually they let me get closer.
I had fun, learned lots and 8 hours FLEW by.

    Hi Kristine,

#1 is an american goldfinch in winter plumage, and #2 is a song sparrow.

Thanks Alex! I was wondering if anyone would know. Isn't a goldfinch a house pet bird? Stop laughing!! I know very little about birds!
Never would have guessed a sparrow on the second one.
    Thanks again!

Just kidding! Actually I may have said the same thing a few years back. Those early posts are probably still floating around on this site.

Goldfinches are popular house pet birds, but they also have "wild" relatives. Same with other pet birds, even canaries can be found flying free in certain parts of the world.
