    Mosquito Macros (I think?)

This is a mosquito correct? (Not my best stuff but I thought these were worth posting anyway...)

This one was cropped in too close, loss of image quality, I thought it was still interesting to look at though.

This little guy was also hanging out,

Random flower I thought had some nice color contrasts

    Hope you guys dig them.

nice job! Though it looks like a mosquito, I have never seen one feed on nectar(though they must eat something)

    Re: Mosquito Macros (I think?)

Thanks folks, I think perhaps this insect only resembles a mosquito? The globule of amber grasped in it's proboscis makes me think it;s not a blood drinker. I will see if I spot any more of these little guys today.

Awesome shots. However, I don't think it's a mosquito. Besides that, they like blood not nectar. Also, that first green hopper looks awful ticked off at you.

Haha, he does indeed. I also am starting to bellieve the flying insect is the first set of shots is not a blood sucker.

Thank you so much. I was using a Sony Alpha 100 with a 90mm Tamron macro lens. The bugs were actually very cooperative, however they are so tiny getting a tight clean focus was the tricky part.

Great macros..... btw only femlae mosquitos drink blood ( they need the protein to develop eggs) the males (of at least some species) DO drink necter. but i don't have an id for these... not sure if they are mosquitos or not.

Thank you for the compliment, I see this forum is a great place to learn new facts about the creatures we so love to shoot photos of.

I knew about only females drink blood, but was uncertain as to what the males would eat.
