    More herps from southern IL

Finished the animals from my trip, now I just have to get through the memory shots. Here's a few.

    Ribbon snake, as found.

    from the opposite side:

    longtail salamander

    redbelly snake

grey (cope's) tree frog, for scale...

    Bird voiced tree frog

what a cool critter. State endangered species.

    for scale

spadefoot toad! The only lifelist animal I saw, I was really excited about this one. They only emerge from underground for a short time after heavy rains, perhaps as seldom as every couple of years.

    what cool eyes!

and the reason they are called spadefoot toads, the spade.
