    The moon is popular tonight

Came on to post this and saw Mike's (awesome) shot.

    I stacked a 2x and 1.4x with my 300mm f/4.

f/8 (the Tamron tc's don't show you the adjusted aperture though, so I believe that it was effectively a few stops higher...) and 1/200

do the TCs allow the camera to autofocus ?

    Thanks everyone

Much to my astonishment, it actually did try and successfully auto-focus. It was slow and had to hunt quite a bit first though, and I turned it off and went manual since it was faster. I was really surprised though since I've rented the canon TC's and the canon 2x absolutely would not try to focus on this lens (even the camera reported MF as the focus mode and disregarded the lens setting).

    Very nice Cara!

What brand TC's were you using? I believe the Canon TC's will automatically shut down the AF with certain lens/camera combinations. For example, the Canon 300mm f/4 lens with the Canon 2xTC will only autofocus when used with EOS-1V & EOS-3 and only if you use the center focusing point.

I have the newer Tamron TC's (SP Pro?), got them used on Keh... so far they seem to work pretty well.
