This spring a colony of these guys have suddenly appeared. I am waiting on one of the University experts to come out and see if they can determine if it is mutation, genus, disease, etc. They and the other squirrels don't get along. That's a clue.

yes it will be an interesting find, but my guess is the others are jealous of this ones looks, very pretty! great image.

That is so cool! I think it's just a color variation of a gray squirrel, like the black squirrels.

Thanks everybody who commented. This one is a cute little fellow. He drives the dogs wild when I take one out for a walk. The Black Lab next door is just spoiling to climb the elms trees to get at them!!

Looks like a variant and maybe some colony members are hosting a parasite as there's been some hair loss in some squirrels. The parasite (like a flea) doesn't cause the light colored hair, but they are more prone to infestation. Or that's the general gist of the analysis I've gotten so far. More if it develops.
