Yesterday, I had a long photographic section with a Least Bittern at the Viera Wetlands wherein I took well over 300 images. Here are the first five.
1. A typical pose for the Least Bittern.
2. At times, he would stretch his wings for balance.
3. At times he was unbalanced on one side only and would stretch only one wing to compensate.
4. You normally see them stretch their neck to get fish, but I found that if the pray was too far away, the Least Bittern would dive into the water for fish.
5. After diving into the water, the bird would immediately return to the cover of the reeds.
