    Last Hurrah

The memories of warmer months are now really starting to fade away.

Found these holdouts a few days ago including two pairs of little red dragonflies. Seems to me really late to be laying eggs now. Survival trick for this species I suppose.

Time to think about what new ideas to shoot in the cooler months ahead.

Image No 1 reminds me of two little helicopters, I think it's great. I saw quite a few dragonflies on a walk here in the UK a few days ago and thought it was a bit late for them to still be around. Wish I could take good photo's of them like you Loupey, they are to quick for me.

Hmmm.....I've never seen dragonflies in that formation before. I've seen them mating and flying, but this doesnt look like mating to me!!
Its still beyond me how you get these in focus using MF.

Cassie - thanks for looking. Where ever you can photograph them, please do and post them here. I don't often see dragonflies from far away places.

slayer - the temps have been all over the place here. But, in general, the temps are on their way down. The worst part is that it gets dark so darn early. I can shoot in the cold, but it makes it really tough when it is dark

big baldo - I noticed two methods of egg laying - the probe planters and the water slappers. The big blue/green ones and the damselflies will land attached and probe deep into the water to plant their eggs. Others will repeatedly slap their addomens on the water surface (releasing eggs I assume).

I used the 2x on the 300mm for these with not too much of a crop on the image. I've found that just getting that buggers in the viewfinder at close range to be much harder than focusing once I get them sighted in.
