Killdeer, Greater Yellowlegs, and Tricolor Heron

A few more from yesterday. It occured to me that nobody ever really seems to photograph the Killdeer. I realize they are a common bird all over the country, but they really are a very nice bird, and curious as heck. All you have to do is sit still, and they'll approach fairly close. The Greater Yellowlegs was a nice surprise. They're not all that common here. The Tricolor was just me goofing around with the 2x TC, as it was a quiet morning at Ding Darling yesterday.

Really nice shots! I especially like the killdeer - having never seen one, it certainly seems exotic to me! :-) Your shots makes me want to move to Florida - it looks SOOOO sunny and warm

Killdeer are awesome to capture when nesting, but that's about the only time I can get close in a reasonable time.

    Great images as always.

    Thanks Mette and Paul.

Mette - It is very nice here this time of year. However, the price its that you have to survive the summer hurricane season to appreciate the winter!

Paul - I've always found the Killdeer to be jumpy at first, but curious as heck after a while. If you find a small water hole and just set up on it, they usually will work their way back over to you. During nesting season, you can always get them doing their "broken wing" act.
