    Just a cute house sparrow...

I took my 6 year old daughter for her first photo safari in one of the local parks (the one with "The Little Mermaid" in fact ). She used our small pink (!) Sony WSC120 and had a wonderful time, taking lots of bird and dog shots - I think I learned more about dogs than birds today, dog people are VERY chatty esp to a cute little girl with a pink camera.

We also had the great pleasure of watching a large group of Bohemian Waxwings, which I haven't seen before but it is one of the most beautiful birds we have in Denmark IMHO. It was too late for any decent photographs unfortunately, but I'll try and go back tomorrow....

This male house sparrow is one of Mummy's shots. People might think it boring and common, but I thought this one was really cute and like the way it looked at me

I photographs the house sparrow a lot, too. Well, for one they're easy to find. And then if everything works well, you can have a very good photograph of a house sparrow, too, even if it is just a house sparrow.

    Now about the crows...

Great shot, looks like the sparrow has a real expression, what's up with that. Smile you're on ...

Thanks for looking AgingEyes and shootme :-)

Being an novice, I'm not really that bothered how exotic the birds is, and living in town, I can't afford to be choosy! Having said that, I find great beauty in most birds, no matter how common they are

Same thinking here – I'm not one of those people who puts special meshes over their feeders or spends $$$ on expensive weight-balanced gadgets to prevent house sparrows/starlings/pigeons from eating!

Cute photo, except that branch going through the bird's head is somewhat distracting to my eye. Practising is the only solution... ;-)

So were are your daughter's images?

I like the head position on that house sparrow.

Cute pose. Even the lowly house sparrow can be pretty.

Re: Just a cute house sparrow...

jetrim, Alex, Paul, Eric and Mike - thank you all for looking and your positive responses Great to see some fans of "the little bird" out there!

Just out of curiousity, is the Scandinavian house sparrow identical to the North American one? It seems that we don't have that many birds in common from what I've seen here?

Alex, one of my childhood traumas is the great moral indignation I felt towards my father for always chasing away the sparrows and the blackbirds from the bird feeders. I really couldn't comprehend (and still can't!) why these birds should have any less right to food and survival just because they were the "wrong" colour

Paul, I will post my daughters images at some stage but at the moment they are still in the camera which my older daughter has taken with her for a few days. The third daughter also enjoys photography and got a camera (also Sony W120) for her birthday recently!

The North American house sparrow is a euro-transplant. It is doing very well here. - TF

European house sparrows are world wide and look the same throughout it's range.

Re: Just a cute house sparrow...

Thanks, guys! It used to be the most common bird in Denmark, but it has in later years been outcompeted by the tree sparrow, blackbird and the chaffinch apparently.
