Just another day at the Lagoon.

Took a new photographer down to Little Estero Lagoon this morning. Not sure what was more fun: All the great birds that were there, or watching the new photographer take his gear out into waist deep water to get the right angle to the light. Don't worry, I gave him lessons in doing this! I'd have felt bad if he'd have dropped a camera in the water. Still, it's always fun watching someone do this for the first time.

Anyway, here are a few of the many images I shot. We had a blast. The Oystercatcher is a new species for me! I knew we had them, but I've never been able to capture one with a camera. Enjoy.

This is a juvenile American Ostercatcher. Captured using my usual modus operandi.....Face down in th mud! (you shold've see the new guys face when I stood up covered in mud!)

The White-Morph Reddish Egret was there again today too:

I tried a couple different compositions on the Least Terns today. I really wanted some flight shots, and I thought it would be cool to get an image of one settling on the nest. The flight shots are really hard, because they are fast, and turn abruptly.

LOL, C_B! - push the new guy too hard and too fast and he'll likely find a cleaner and easier way to spend loads of money and time

Great shots btw. My favorite is the Least Tern in-flight shot.

LOL - I would normally agree with you 100 percent, but this guy insisted on learning how I do it. I warned him before we went, but I think maybe he thought I was exaggerating! I'm betting that when he finishes processing his images, he'll get the whole picture. His work was nice before, but not anything special. He got out there with me and got some different angles, learned how to read the light, learned how to work the subject, and most importantly....learned how to read his histogram! I'm betting he's going to have some really nice images from yesterday, and that has a funny way of making you want more

He was definitely a bit amazed, though, while we were out. He took pictures of me standing waist deep in the water, working the angle on the White Morph. I finally looked up at him and asked what he was waiting for? He waded right out and probably got some incredible shots.
