    Junco and RT Shots

It got a bit warmer out, like 25 degrees warmer, so I took advantage today. I wish the cloud cover would have co-operated a bit, but it was not to be.

The junco turned out nice, but the RT's could have been brighter.

    Cheers,

    Randy.

    Re: Junco and RT Shots

The first thing I noticed was that none of these appeared that sharp. I had no idea if you had sharpened them at all, so I saved this one and all I did was apply the USM, sharpened it a bit more and then despeckled it, in Elements. It made quite a difference. However, they are good captures.

    Nice shooting, WTP07.

mn shutterbug, I think your version is over-the-top. Sharpening can be easily overdone. I think what you are referring to is not unsharpness, rather pixelation/noise from a high crop (on #1 and #2 at least). Randy, correct me if I'm wrong here.

    Hey Loupey & Mn,

Ya, 1 & 2 are severely cropped, the junco almost at 100%, but it allowed me to cut out some of the oof background that was distracting. I will repost the uncropped junco when I get home.

Not thrilled with the 'sharpened' version of the junco, kinda makes it look 'pixelated' IMHO, but I appreciate the help with it!

    Re: Junco and RT Shots

Yeah, I may have gone a step too far on the sharpening. However, I do prefer the eyes on birds, sharp. If you would have posted a 640 X 480, I may not have even noticed any softness.

But, pixelation is not caused by over sharpening. It's caused by over cropping or over enlarging beyond the resolution's capabilities.

Yep, I resaved it and reopened it and reduced the size a bit, and the original looks much better. However, a teeny bit of sharpening does help, just not as much as I did.
