    Insect ID ?

    Irridescent blue sheen to the wings, black body, strong fast flier.
    Any ideas?

    Hard for me to tell for sure, but I think that's the same as these guys?






    Commonly we call these guys black hornets, but they're not a hornet. I believe they're great black wasps.

    Paul,

    Just looked through my pocket Nature Insect book and it could be Spider-hunting wasp (Pompilius cinerus) buries eggs in sand if that helps.
