    Identify the lizard

Hi, not been around for over a month and last week in Rojales, Spain, I came across this little chap. I think he/she could be either of these two breeds, can anyone help narrow the ID?

    • Iberian Wall Lizard (Podarcis hispanicus; squamata) or
    • Spanish Psammodromus (Psammodormus hispanicus; squamata)

Found in the grounds of the Villa in a rocky flower bed with shale all around. Approx 160mm head to tip of tail. Would run at great speed when I got too close.

But then again I could be wrong.

    Any help greatly appreciated.

    Re: Identify the lizard

Looks like podarcis to me. Of course, having never had to ID them on the fly, I would be wrong. I do know they are extremely variable in pattern and color.

If I did have to guess without a locality, I'd be wrong, because I'd guess genus cnemodophorus (now aspidosteles, or something) which are not found in spain.

    Re: Identify the lizard

Thanks for the responses, The lizards in my book found in this area of Spain, are:

    Iberian Wall
    Spanish Psammodromus
    Large Psammodromus
    Colouring wrong for the Large

The other two are possibilities but could not get close enough to get any clearer pics with the Canon Pro 1 or to identify distinguishing features. It would skuttle off as soon as I got within 4 ft of it. I wish now that I'd taken the 5D and 400mm.

The region it was found is here
