    ID Dragonfly?

I took these photos in Richmond, VA, at Three Lakes Nature Center. Can anybody tell me what it is? My field guide doesn't show it.

Not sure - there are so many. I usually classify into three types: big, medium, small.

    Welcome to the site!

FYI - if you place your images to your post, you may get more responses in the future. I know it sounds lazy, but many will not bother clicking links to see the images (I didn't the first time through).

I'm kinda with Loupey on this one. I don't usually spend much time trying to figure out the names. I can say, however, that those particular ones are fairly common around here. If I figure out what they are I'll post to this thread. Welcome, and nice images!

Thanks for the responses! I didn't immediately see a way to post them, but then I had just signed up and forums are all so different. Do I use the "user gallery" link that's on there? Or it seems from looking at the header on this Quick Reply that you can pull them in this way, but when I tried it just asked for the URL of my image. Regardless it's nice to have found this site!

Donna, imbedding an image is quick and easy. Whenever you start a thread or post a reply, you will have a section called "Additional Options" below where you type your text. Within this area, there is an "Upload Photo" button. That will bring up another window where you can select up to 5 images at a time.

Hope to see more of your work!

This might help you with the ID - wing markings are similar and I think females have the dark tail: http://bugguide.net/node/view/603/bgpage =)
