I guess this fits in here..? M42 Galaxy

I guess this fits into this forum.. lol..

I gave a whirl with the new 40D at some astrophotography and this was my best shot of the night. The 40D really lets you focus in on the object, I love the live view feature the most on this camera. While 200mm isnt nearly enough for astrophotography, it did work quite well.

I wish we had an astrophotography section as well. I'd love to see the images that fill into that forum.

    Heres the shot!

I'm going to hopefully obtain a T-mount and a telescope soon and take some more shots.

Nice to see you're enjoying your new 40D. I find it interesting that you can use the live view feature to focus on stars. I figured the screen resolution and the high amplification needed wouldn't allow it to pick up on small points of light in the dark like that.

I'm surprised at how much detail you got out of your 200mm. How much of a crop is this and how long was the exposure?

I've always wanted a Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope (since I was 10 or so). I did purchase a pretty nice Newtonian a couple years ago. The light pollution is pretty horrendous where we live now. Would love to take the kids out to the country to use it again. Thanks for the inspiration!

Very cool shot Mike. Even though I don't actively study a lot of that stuff, I've always been fascinated by space. Thanks for sharing.
