Thanks Loupey i had a hell of a time trying to get one of these using Auto focus , one thing that i noticed this morning trying to capture Tree Swallow's in flight is that it seems to be easier to do using manual focus instead of auto . I cant wait to get home tonight and check out the difference but then again i may just have a bunch of blurry Swallows.

Yeah, AF sucks It's OK for family shooting, predictable action scenes (sports), and large stuff (elephant). But for non-frame-filling stuff or small in-flight stuff, I think manual is the only way to go.

To be fair, when I shot those northern rough-winged swallows, I did try the AF with the 300mm. Not even close! The camera/lens had no idea why I was shaking it so violently as it tried to pick out a piece of pond scum or a cattail.

Im having a tough time locating my focus ring . Nikon moved it from the end of the lens to a spot close to the camera , my finger`s are hunting for the focus ring . I think im gonna try a rubber band around it and see if it helps
