    Re: How I Photograph Birds

You guys have no idea how helpful this thread is to me. I like taking pictures a lot, but I can't say I'm good at it, though. I'm actually planning to make photography as my new hobby, and I've always been fascinated in taking pictures of birds. As I've said, I'm not good at it. More tips and advice are very much appreciated.

Thanks for the tips. Your pics are lovely. I don't have the right lens to get close like you, but I will soon be going to a lake at the height of bird migration. Any tips for taking photos of large flocks of birds? (On the water and in the air.)

Tripod? Fast shutter speed? I'm concerned that light, particularly in late afternoon and at sunset, will not be enough for my lens. I am going to look into renting a lens or two.

    Re: How I Photograph Birds

Hi all....new to this forum, not even sure how to post a new thread but decided to start here. I just bought a Sony DSC-HX100V and I'm looking for advice and tips on using this camera. It's so high tech I don't know where to start! I am also interested in photographing birds. The 16X zoom on this camera is great, with the right lighting. I went fishing the other day and was using the zoom and took some great pics of a white Crane on the opposite side of the pond. I wish I knew how to upload pics on here, I'd share them with everyone.

What kind of trouble are you having? What gear do you use and what bird species do you typically go after?

I learnt the basic photography rules from Mr. Kishore Mamillapalli who is one of the leading wildlife photographers from South Africa. He used to say that “Beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder”. If you like what you see on your camera screen, or through the viewfinder, you will like the photograph.

There are some basic photography rules for composition. Once you know these rules, you can use them, ignore them, or break them. Follow your gut, and you will end up with spectacular, sometimes breathtaking results. Kishore is really an astonishing wild life photographer and has a great eye for details..
