    How close was this guy from the bird?

    He said he only used a 80-200 plus TC 1.4, but not sure if it was a typo because he said previously he used a 80-400 :

    AgingEyes - first of all, please do not post other people's photographs. A link to those works is sufficient.

    Secondly, yes, I think his equipment could produce this if he was in the right place at the right time. Harriers certainly hunt flying low enough. He would have had to known the bird's route and waited along that path. A beautiful shot nonetheless - one I have been trying to get myself.

    He even has posted shots taken with a 105 macro!

    The EXIF says 280mm
    This is just knowing your subject's habits.
    If the harrier is flying a regular beat, it's a matter of watching and waiting.
