Help and tips?

Everything is starting to look a lot like spring here, lots of flowers popping out.
I was just wondering if anyone had any tips on how to take good pictures of nature and flowers?

Here's a tip for ya. For flowers, get low, and watch your background. Flower shots from a standing position are generally kind of boring. Everyone sees that same view as they walk past them. If you get low, you will show the viewer something they don't typically see.

Lots of different ways for lots of different subjects. Sometimes, lots of different ways for even the same subject.

Flowers are surprisingly difficult to photograph well. Look at other photographs (calendars, books, on-line, etc) and see what appeals to you and see if you can replicate that look/style. Because flowers don't jump and run away from you, personal style and technique play much larger roles.

One tip is to use shade to get better colour rendition, unless you want bright sunlight on the flower of course.

I noticed on your profile that you have a point and shoot camera. My suggestion is experiment lots with the macro (close-up) setting on your camera for flowers, bugs, center of flowers, or whatever. In addition to my digital SLR, I have a point and shooter that takes excellent macro shots.

My suggestion is to look at how the flowers are grouped - in public, and many private, gardens, there is an architecture which includes shape, height, colour and visual lines. Non plant forms are often included. Flowers make great macros, but don't forget to look at the big picture too

I think the most important thing to keep in mind when photographing flowers, is to photograph them with the perfect light... which occurs on an overcast day--the thick clouds are the perfect diffuser of the sun's harsh light (which will blow out the highlights of the wildflower).
