    Help please.....

Forget the fact that this is no doubt the worst shot I've ever taken, I just want to know what the heck this thing is. Something caught my eye flying from one tree to another and this is the best I could get. It flew away right after never to be seen again. It seemed a fairly good size. The first shot is the full frame with my zoom at full 300mm. I just wanted to get a shot off so maybe I could tell what it was when I got home.
    Any clue??

I was thinking that too. I think it's a yellow shafted northern flicker.

Thanks folks! Knew I could count on you guys. Sorry I have not been around much lately. Searching for full time employment has become a big priority.
