Hawks, hawks, and some more hawks

OK, so it seems I can find them now no problem. Today I used my 4500 pound mobile blind (my truck) to follow these guys. Too many crazy joggers this afternoon (in still sub-zero temps) frightening these guys away

All with the 300mm + 2x TC. I got too close for the 2nd image - it is full frame.

Trying to diversify with different angles and flight images. I must say it is very difficult to manually focus on a flying hawk. Much more so than on a flying dragonfly which flies in a more-or-less predictable pattern.

ISO 400 for the first two. ISO 800 for the remaining to try to get a sharp hawk in the dimming light. I find ISO 800 to be too high with the 30D (too noisy, blotchy, & flat).

Love the first # but the 3# is my kinda shot, you have caught the head position just right and i love the feathering pattern showing under the nearside wing.

I use my 'mobile blind' quite a bit now that we are dealing with the avg of -15C daytime high...
I find the harriers don't seem to mind it, but the RT's don't like it at all...I got out of the truck yesterday to stand on the back of the truck to get a shot of a harrier on the ground....and my hands were frozen in about 30 seconds....with gloves on!

I like how sharp you got the 1st shot....nice to have some sun at least to go with the freezing temps...

All are great as usual Loupey but #3 has that WOW factor that you jst can't manufactur. Aweome capture

Bev, WTP, Copy, & Jaedon - thanks for looking and commenting. It was rather exhillerating to watch these guys gorgeous creatures both in flight and stationary.

I had several flight sequence opportunities, but with such short flights, the wing positions were often in less than flattering positions.
