Grey heron silhouette on sunset sky

Hi guys, I haven't posted very much lately...too many sick kids...weather too miserable... But yesterday we finally had a day which was not grey in grey, freezing cold though with strong Easterly winds, straight from Russia with love...

I finally got close to a flying heron (130mm with the old Minolta 100-300mm zoom) and I was even prepared with 1/500s speed! The sun had just gone down, so my best option was to go for a silhouette shot and expose for the sky.

    Good choice and great results!

Now tend to those sick kids and hope for some warmer weather

    Thanks, Loupey

I only just now spotted the silhouette thread, don't know why I didn't see it yesterday but I was somewhat in shock reading about Greg McCary.

I love the composition, and the sky colours contribute greatly to the shot's success. Nice work.

    Thanks, Alex

Decided that the following lyrics go rather nicely with the image

    Lost
    On a painted sky
    Where the clouds are hung
    For the poet’s eye
    You may find him
    If you may find him
    There
    On a distant shore
    By the wings of dreams
    Through an open door
    You may know him
    If you may
    (Neil Diamond)

    Hello again Pink Dragonfly,
Hope the children are all well now.
This is a most delightful shot.
Wonder what you look like to that beautiful bird.
If I had the nerve/money I think taking pictures from the
    air would be exciting.
(Neil Diamond) is one of my favorites.
Number one movie for me is "The Jazz Singer"

I'm not an engineer but do appreciate the
wonderful world I survey. (is that too corny?)
    PS,
you were the first exchange reply when I got here.
