    A greenhouse shot

My son and I spent the holiday yesterday at the local conservatory for some photo lessons.

Ironically, I have always found it exceedingly difficult to get unusual/pleasing flower images at conservatories. The backgrounds are cluttered, the lighting is unpredictable, and the crowds are problematic.

Still, I think I got one. Fortunately this orchid was really high up and in the sun so that I could pick it out with my 300mm - the only lens I took with me.

Very nice. I have done a lot of shots of the flowers around my mothers house. I took a bunch of close up and put them together in a colage for her so she has something to look at all winter and wait for spring.

Nice one Loupey, the unopened buds set it off nicely.
I have lots of orchids in my garden but don't have any really pleasing shots of them. I'll give it a try as soon as my camera comes back from the repair shop. It looks like it has taken less time for your arm to heal than it has for my camera to be repaired, one month and counting.

That's a great image, Loupey. Great composition, great lighting, great bokeh - 10/10.

bwood63 - thanks for looking. Sounds like a very nice gesture you did for your mother too

Martin - still no camera? I think I'd rather break a bone than be without a camera Seriously, I hope you get your camera back soon. We'd like to see what's all going on down there!

Jim - thank you! The shot was taken with the same camera as your new one. Hope you're enjoying yours

Nice one, Loupey Great composition and lovely colours and you've done pretty well with DOF and focus considering the lens you were using. You might want to colour in the light coloured branchy thing on the far left halfway up, it is a little distracting.

How did the photo lessons go?

Martin, I really hope for you that you get your camera back soon, you must be going crazy?

For me or for my son? I bought him a Canon XS a week or two ago as he's been without a camera for over a year (I "accidentally" gave his 10D to my brother). So he's been quite excited about getting back into it.

Normally, we don't upload images that are not our own. But since he's a minor and my son, I'll post two of the image he shot with his XS and 70-300mm lens. Both SOOC and uncropped (resized only).
