    Rockchucks on the Yellowstone

Last weekend we took a trip down to Pompey's Pillar on the Yellowstone River. Right off the bat I spotted a rockchuck and put the sneak on to get a good shot. The dry leaves underfoot gave me away and he quickly darted down a hole, which is pretty normal for these nervous critters. As luck would have it, there were about a hundred more further into the park that were less flighty.

    Two really nice captures.
Wow looks like these guys are living in old tree trunks.
I get to see marmots sometimes but it is usually above treeline in the big boulders and they do spook easy. Nicely done.

    Re: Rockchucks on the Yellowstone

During the summer, I only see these guys up in the rocks. This is the first time I have seen them down on the flat ground and hanging around the trees like this. So perhaps the trees are their winter home, then they wander up to higher ground during the summer (and tourist) season? I enjoyed the opportunity to finally get close enough to get some decent images of them for a change. Thanks for checking them out.
