Glad im not a female Coot!

Well i had to take some pictures of this love affair, as it was quite bizarre! I dont know if she thought he was that ugly or just something Coots do, but she stuck her head in the water and thats where it stayed until the event was over! then he pecked very gently around her head as much to say "dear, please do something with your hair someones taking our photograph" and finally they stood side by side tidying themselves up.

Sorry if focus is a bit out as i was laughing when taking these, and take a look at those feet!

I didnt know whether to put these here or in funny bird pic thread but please move them if necessary.

Do you use a monopod/tripod or hand held at those speeds and do you have IS on or off?

I have just bought that lens and looking for the best settings for taking wildlife.

Re: Glad im not a female Coot!

I can honestly say that i have'nt used a tripod or monopod since having this lense, im not a great fan of carrying either around in undergrowth and fields after wildlife, but that doesnt mean im condemning them totally, i much prefer to handhold my camera which gives me total freedom when panning birds in flight and similar, i sometimes use the 1.4TC along with this lense and if the light is kind i have no problems handholding this combo as well, as for the IS, i use it almost 100% on at setting 2, unless, i am photographing deer grazing for example(which there is very little motion occuring), it took me a while to get used to the pump action zoom, but now along with my 70-200L i use it for majority of my photography, i used it on the Adder images that i posted a week ago this gives a good example of how close it can reach and in quite low light.

I hope this helps a little Roger, and im sure you will grow to love this lense like i have, and i look forward to seeing some of your images posted here.

Im off today to Thetford Forest until Wednesay to see what other beasties i can find! so if i dont reply again to this you will know why.

Great to see someone localish to me! I am near Southend-On-Sea, village called Hullbridge.
