    fox moth caterpillar

    Common on the heathland.
    Usually I'd expect them to be charging across the paths this time of year, moving form food plant to pupation hideout.
    But this one seems a late developer, and is moulting.

    Strange to see the old skin still attached, with the skin of the head covering about half way down the caterpillar.
