    Flutter-byes

Not my usual subject for photographing so I thought I would post these here and say 'How'd I do?'
    Suggestions and critiques greatly appreciated.

Very nice shots, I prefer the first and third shots, love that blue against the tile background...

    Thanks for posting over here!

I'm drawn to the third one because it is not conventional. I also like the last one for the soft underlighting.

Thanks for sharing. Hope we get you hooked on making these more your usual subjects

    Re: Flutter-byes

Thanks for the encouraging words! I visited the Smithsonian Natural History Museum this week and they have a brand new permanent butterfly exhibit. It was wonderful. It has definitely encouraged me to go out and get a set of extension tubes to I can look at little things more closely. Does anyone know what kind of butterflies these are?

    Re: Flutter-byes

Your 1st and 2nd look to be a Clipper (Parthenos sylvia)
3rd is a Common Blue Morpho (Morpho peleides)
4th is a Golden Helicon (Heliconius hecale)

Btw, it appears you lightened the shadows a tad too much on the first shot. Be careful using that tool as it reverses the natural highlights/shadows on N&W subjects which can make it look a bit unnatural.

Thank you Loupey! Great advice and information! Here is the unedited file. My lens is a bit shmutzy, sorry.

The third one grabbed my attention. Like Loupey said, it isn't conventional, but I like it a lot. Good job!

    My mistake and my apologies!

I assumed that that gray area beneath the wings and against the body was due to overusing the shadows tool which can produce that same effect.
