    Fishing in the winter

Ok, these pics aren't great, but this was the first time I have been out in a while, so I was happy to just see something.

Glad you were able to get out, Michael. The alignment worked out great for #1.

Nice peaceful shot of the duck too.

    Re: Fishing in the winter

Thanks Paul and Loupey. The image quality just isn't there for the eagle shots since I wasn't able to use my tripod. The city closes all the accessible ares close to the river this time of winter, so people don't scare the eagles. You have to stay in your car, so I was shooting with my 500mm resting on my window. Once I saw the eagle standing on the ice, with the people fishing in the BG, I had to give it a try.

    Thanks for looking.

the answer to your car shooting.........

turn it off and rest the lens on a bag of rice

I did. I keep 2 bags of rice in my truck for just this type of situation. One is small, about 2 pounds, the other is 5 pounds. I put the small one on the window, with the lens on top of it. Then I put the heavier bag on top of the lens. It works very well, but not as well as the tripod with a cable release. I also have caribeaners on the bags of rice so I can clip them to my tripod for some extra stability if I need it.

I think I got the idea from you, a long time ago.
