    First flowers of spring

around here anyway is whitlow grass. Stems are 1-2 inches high and blossoms are barely 5mm when open, more like 3-4mm when closed. I caught them just as the first rays of the sun melted the frost -

Later they blossomed and the mining bees came for breakfast -

Nothing else is blooming right now, so these guys are very important. And while I was down there I noticed they have a pretty powerful scent for such a tiny weed. They smell a little like tulips. And yeah, the stems and leaves are really that plummy/maroon color.

Both shot w/the E-30 and the OM 90mm f2 legacy macro. The first one with a 25mm extension tube with the camera on a bag of barley (so high tech) and the second handheld without the tube.

Love that last shot. Woodland wildflowers are just starting to open here in IL. Spring has been late this year.
