around here anyway is whitlow grass. Stems are 1-2 inches high and blossoms are barely 5mm when open, more like 3-4mm when closed. I caught them just as the first rays of the sun melted the frost -
Later they blossomed and the mining bees came for breakfast -
Nothing else is blooming right now, so these guys are very important. And while I was down there I noticed they have a pretty powerful scent for such a tiny weed. They smell a little like tulips. And yeah, the stems and leaves are really that plummy/maroon color.
Both shot w/the E-30 and the OM 90mm f2 legacy macro. The first one with a 25mm extension tube with the camera on a bag of barley (so high tech) and the second handheld without the tube.
