    First of a few from...

    My vacation South ,

First i would like to say that i had a agreement with my wife that this vacation south was not going to be spent on Bird photography lol, so the only lens i was able to bring with me was a kit 18-55mm for my Nikon D50 hehe so heres the first . A Pelican of some kind

PS: i have looked at all new threads but there are to many to even think of replying to

Thanks all These guys are a riot to watch . When the fishermen start pulling in their lines these guys jump on the fish they catch . Sometimes they are even fast enough to swallow the fish before the fisherman can grab it lol

That is exactly why I am going to Florida alone later this month. Guess you can't leave the wife home though.

Re: First of a few from...

Hey all, great photos! Next time anyone is in the central Florida area let me know. My wife and I live on the St. Johns river. The river extends from just north of Okeechobee all the way to the Atlantic at Jacksonville. There are crystal clear springs all along the way and they are truly magnificent! It is the only river in the U.S that runs north.(a little trivia) One of the best parts about living on this river is sharing the beauty with others. Most people that visit Florida never get to see this side of it. We go out on the river about 3 to 4 times a week and would be more than happy to take people with us.(kids love it) Just pm me. Also I can give some advice on places to go for some good wildlife photos. BB

I saw that one on teh 15th Knight. The damn thing is HUGE! They say you could fit a king sized mattress in it lol. They went by so fast though I was unable to get a decent picture of it. That and I was on the wrong side of the bus too.

Did you get to go closer to the shuttle on the launch pad? We werent allowed to go too close because it was on teh crawler when we got there and moving to the pad. I got a few images of it before it made it to the launch pad but they're all from 3 miles out and heavy cropped to get a decent image. I was using my 500 though so it wasn't too bad.

I will at least be prepared the next time we go there. We plan on prepurchasing the up close tour tickets as I hear they sell out by 9 am daily. Then I will be looking for the nest and get some shots of it on the way by.

Keep shooting and have fun... you're definitely getting better weather than we had the 2 weeks we were there. The first week was a Floridian deep freeze....with 3 nights below freezing. The scond week was nice .. but over too quickly as we had to pack up and head back home.

Re: First of a few from...

I just did a google for "rivers that run north" and a bunch came up that they say do! On the nautical(waterproof) maps that I have for this river, have a small article on them talking about the river and thats where I got that from...... Now that I think about it,it might say, "one of the only". I'll go look tomorrow.

Water knows not compass bearings. Only gravity.

Water always takes the path of least resistance towards the ocean (or at least impoundments along the way - i.e. Great Lakes in my parts)

Or unless mankind decides it should run in a different direction and reverses the flow - like the chicago river.
