mjs1973, great images, thanks for sharing. Went out last weekend looking for some bluebirds (Mountain Bluebirds in our area) - very disappointing, I think I was able to locate one and that was from a distance. Their nesting boxes are being taken over by swallows. That is not a bad thing as the swallows usually come in after the bluebirds have begun to nest, but the presence of swallows usually means there will be no bluebirds. Not sure why, but they have been getting fewer and fewer over the last 5 years or so.

I really like #3! Nice diagonal of light, nice bend in the leaves from the breeze. With that shot, I can feel the wind on my face, hear the rustle of the leaves, and smell the moist earth.

So jealous, bluebirds are just out of reach here in Houston. Great captures, especially number 2

Nice shots, Mike. The bird in the last one really hit the mother lode of meal worm harvests!

    Thanks everyone!

Loupey, yes, the wind was blowing pretty good that day. I had to try to time a lot of my shots for when the wind was blowing some of the leaves out of my way. The wind was so strong at times that the BB's would almost hover, which is how I got the in flight shot.

I always find it interesting to see how animals behave differently from one another, even of the same species. In this case, the female would grab as many mealworms as she could get in her beak, the male would only take one at a time most of the time.

Like people. Isn't it just like the guy in the relationship to do the very least amount of housework as possible and still get away with it?

Looks like Eastern Bluebirds (Sialia sialis) to me. Really like the picture where the male is perched on a branch with a mealworm in its mouth and the in-flight picture. Thanks for sharing!

    Very nice images Mike!

I'm new here but I'm having a great time observing and photography a pair of bluebirds as they raise youngsters in a bluebird house we set up in our backyard. Happily (but also sadly) the little guys should fledge before Monday.

Nice series. The flight shot is wonderful, but the first one looks great. All are darn good ones.
