Sony/Minolta - way more gear than talent.
Terry I have seen both hawks and eagles swim on several different occasions, but only had a camera to document it one time. And that was way back in 2006. I was using a Panasonic FZ-30 camera and it was at a time when I was just beginning to use a camera for wildlife, so I will apologize for the poor quality photos I am going to post. Hopefully my present day photos are better than these or I had better find something else to do with my time.
This first photo is a young bald eagle landing on a submerged log.
It sat there for a moment and then just jumped off the log into the water and swam about 60 yards to a floating slashing. These are a couple photos I took while it was swimming.
It got up on the floating slash, sat for a few moments and then flew off. Here's a photo as he starts to to take off, after his swim.
Pretty amazing, bunglinbilly! I've heard of eagles swimming before, but only when it had snagged a fish too heavy to lift -- never when it had the option of flying.
