This morning I was cleaning some old growth from my LA iris bed at the pond edge. The bed had been under a few inches of water until summer drought left it high and dry. Iris are starting to sprout new growth.
While thinning and moving some rocks that had been placed when the bed was first planted, I uncovered four white eggs about one inch long. Damaged one before I saw them. They were in a location that was a very tight spot between/under rock and iris rhizomes.
We have water snakes and turtles in and around the pond.
Now; does anyone have any educated guess as to what laid these eggs?
I've put them under some dark loam soil to see if they will incubate.
Any ideas as to how long that may take. OK now here's a couple of shots before I covered them.
